EU Opens up Quotas, Suspends Tariffs on Wide Range of Goods, Bringing Opportunities for Traders
On 30 December 2016, the Official Journal published two important product-related Regulations: one which opens and provides for the management of autonomous tariff quotas for certain agricultural and industrial products, and the other which suspends the autonomous Common Customs Tariff duties on certain agricultural and industrial products. Both provide for trading opportunities for Hong Kong sellers, to which they should be alerted.
Not surprisingly, recently, the presidents of 11 business associations of many major industries in Vietnam and two foreign business associations simultaneously sent petitions to the Government and ministers of 10 ministries and branches. Associations believe that the revised version after the appraisal meeting at the Ministry of Justice on the Draft Decree guiding the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 has too many shortcomings, which can seriously affect the investment environment of Vietnam
Indonesia and Australia Ratify IA-CEPA Agreement
On February 10, 2020, Indonesia and Australia ratified the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The agreement will see duty-free tariffs imposed on two-way trade and exchange of human resources for skills development. Australian companies will now be able to have majority ownership of businesses in specific sectors in Indonesia.
Trump Visit Concludes, Tentative US-India ‘Phase One’ Trade Deal Proposed
No long-term trade agreement was signed between US and India during President Trump’s India visit. However, during three MoUs and a defense deal was signed between the two countries. Talks for a free trade agreement between US and India are expected to start in the next few months.
