International Cooperation & Trade Promotion in the first half of the year 2018

1. Strengthening Vietnam -US textile and garment cooperation in energy savings, trade promotion, knowledge dissemination

Continuing USAID – VIETNAM Low Emission Energy Program (V-LEEP): The USAID – Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program (V-LEEP) helps to develop and implement policies that promote clean energy. After signing the Technical Assistance MOU in March 2017, VITAS cooperated with VLEEP to develop a solution to enhance clean energy development and apply energy efficiency solutions in the textile and garment industry. At the end of June, independent consultants re-evaluated the project to continue the new phase.

Workshop on product safety requirements for textile and garment in the US market: Workshop was organized by VITAS in collaboration with US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). At the workshop, Ms. Arlene Flecha - Program Manager of Southeast Asia - CPSC presented the overview of US market and CPSC function and Ms. Allyson Tenney - Technical Director - The CPSC set out specific product safety regulations for textile and garment and standards under relevant United States laws.

Visiting Program of Cotton Company: is a joint program of the Cotton Council International (COTTON USA) with Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association and the Cotton & Spinning Association with a special mission from the spinning industry of Vietnam to the US cotton industry. Vietnam is now the key market for American cotton and the US is also the leading cotton supplier of Vietnam. This program aimed to increase understanding between the two sectors, with a focus on the US cotton industry. The Vietnamese participants included VITAS’s President Vu Duc Giang, the leader of the large spinning and textile companies in Vietnam. The Vietnamese delegation also visited and worked with the New York cotton market.

Workshop on "Textile Science, Key Elements for Quality of Woven Fabrics" by the Cotton Council International to help VITAS members to have a comprehensive view of the spinning process, dyeing and finishing. The workshop also highlighted important principles and parameters in the production of high quality woven fabric. The basic elements of the production of woven fabric remain unchanged regardless of the purpose of use or the final product. Workshops were held in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in August.

Attending the Global Alliance of Trade Facilitation (GATF) program: Attending counterpart sessions with the private sector in the country to update progress and collect ideas for the System Construction Project of modern customs clearance in import and export and management of goods in Vietnam, to achieve the goal of building the system based on the balance of public-private interest.

Continuing to attend the Magic Show - LasVegas, USA in August, 2018: The "Sourcing at Magic" Fair took place officially from 12-15/08/2018 in LasVegas, USA. This is the largest US clothing trade fair held annually in LasVegas with the participation of a large number of importers and retailers in the United States and other countries around the world, display area up to Over 70,000 square meters, more than 5,000 exhibitors showcasing up to 20,000 fashionable apparels and over 120,000 visitors. 2018 was the 12th year VITAS organized the delegation to participate in this fair. The show promised to bring opportunities for expanding cooperation and orders.

2. Strengthening Vietnam-EU textile and garment cooperation in energy savings, sustainable development, productivity improvement and updating knowledge about EVFTA

Strengthening cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, participating in the project “Creation of an Overarching Framework for NAMAs and MRV in Vietnam”. This is a program sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), co-ordinated by the GIZ in cooperation with the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, Department of Energy conservation and Sustainable development - Ministry of Industry and Trade. VITAS has disseminated information and invited members to participate in the "Second Consultation on Energy Efficiency for Emissions Reduction for the Garment and Textile Sector" program, to introduce the NAMA design for textile and garment industry and discuss the proposed policy and financial instruments in this project.

On 15 Jan, 2018 VITAS signed MOU with The Sustainable Trade Initiatives (IDH) for the period 2018-2019. The purpose of this Partnership is to support the development of Vietnam's garment sector in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. The IDH is a Netherlands-based organization founded in 2008 with the goal of promoting and replicating sustainable trade through the establishment of a coalition of leading companies, civil society organizations, government agencies and other partners. Both IDH and VITAS jointly share the goal of ensuring sustainable growth for Vietnam textile & apparel industry. This also reduces duplication of effort and increases cooperation between the parties. Specifically, IDH will make a financial contribution to support VITAS’s capacity building and enhance sustainability in the industry.

Organizing training courses to support the capacity of VITAS’s enterprises to promote sustainable growth in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The training program includes: (i) introduction and training of enterprises on worker engagement, (ii) productivity enhancement (LEAN), (iii) introduction and guidance to factories about energy, water, and (iv) training on safety and construction in the factory.

Delegation of textile and garment enterprises to France attended the Lectra conference and market survey: According to the invitation of the Lectra Group - France, from 29/06 to 07/07/2018, VITAS organized a delegation of textile and garment enterprise to France to attend the market integration conference. At the Lectra conference, delegates listened to the introduction, exchanging research and experiment with Lectra's update technologies and equipment as 4.0, 3D, cloud computing applications. ... In addition, the delegation conducted market surveys, visited some cultural sites of French history. This was a good opportunity for Vietnamese garment enterprises to find out and effectively approach this market.

Preparing for the "Apparel Sourcing Paris" Fair from 15 - 25/9/2018 in Paris Le Bourget, Paris, France. This is the International Fair of Clothing, Fashion and Accessories in France, one of the leading European trade fairs of the textile industry. The fair has an exhibition area of 12,000 m2, 542 exhibitors and 12.929 visitors. VITAS is also preparing to attend the Federal Trade Fair Textillegprom 2018 in the Russian Federation: September 16 - 25, 2008 in Moscow - St. Petersburg. This is Russia's largest trade show, which is mainly about textile and garment, held twice a year at the Moscow Fair Center, with a large number of importers and retailers of Russia and other countries in the world.

3. Strengthen Vietnam - Japan textile and garment cooperation in design training, productivity management training

Strengthening Vietnam and Japan textile and garment co-operation: was the exchange between VITAS and the representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency - Ministry of Industry and Trade (METI) on March 16, 1818. Japan is a leading partner of the Vietnamese economy and also a key member of the Comprehensive & Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Over the past 10 years, the METI Japan has had many programs to support the training of human resources in Vietnam textile industry in design, production management and productivity improvement. In the new fiscal year 2018-2019, support for Vietnam in intelligent design with intensive content will be implemented by the METI.

VITAS President attended the signing ceremony of exclusive distribution contract for high quality woolen fabrics to Japan market: On March 20 in HCM City, Lienxing Textile Corporation (LPTEX) and TAKISADA - NAGOYA Corporation - Japan (TAKISADA) signed an exclusive contract to distribute the combed wool fabric used for sewing veston into Japan market. After nearly 03 years of investment, installation, trial run and production, up to now, the production line of high-grade combed wool fabrics, with a total investment in phase 1 of over $ 30 million, including the house weaving machine, complete plant,... with designed capacity of more than 5 million meters of finished fabric, LPTEX has successfully produced high quality combed wool fabrics with 100% wool composition; or polyester wool; In 2018, LPTEX is expected to invest about $ 10 million in the second phase, including a spinning mill and a dyeing factory to close the production line. LPTEX is the first and only high quality combed woolen fabric manufacturer in Vietnam with a closed process from fabric production to tailoring.

Traning courses organized by VITAS & NRI – JAPAN:

 5S & Kaizen: The training course on production improvement was conducted from 15/01 to 19/01/2018 by the Japanese experts at Dong Phuong  Knitting Co., Ltd in the form of "In House". During this time, the students of the company studied two main contents including 5S and Kaizen. This was the opportunity for the managers & technical staff of the company achieved more knowledge, skills and experience of Japanese experts in production management. At the same time, Japanese experts also surveyed the status of factories and made direct comments to the company leaders to improve, transform and enhance their competitiveness, contributing to the sustainable development of the company in the current integration conditions.

FOB và ODM: The Training course with the topic “ Enhancing the Value of Moving Production Modes from CMT to FOB / ODM / OBM” from 15/01 to 19/01/2018  to become a potential textile export company through QCD (Quality - Cost - Delivery) was organized by Japanese experts. This course was designed to help students understand the importance of improving quality and price, distribution methods to increase the competitiveness of the product as it is the decisive factor for the development of the enterprise. 1 of fashion design class was successfully held in HCM City. Based on the results of the first phase, VITAS cooperated with the leaders of the member enterprises to appoint a textile and garment group of 13 people from 11 textile companies to Japan to participate in the second training course. Here, the delegation worked with the Bunka University, Textile Research Institute, visited the Museum of Costume, attended trade links with representatives from the leading fashion brands in Japan.

4. Strengthen Asia-Australia textile and garment co-operation on intra-regional unity and business matching

VITAS actively participated in the activities of the ASEAN Textile Federation (AFTEX) and the Asian Fashion Federation (AFF): In the framework of enhancing textile and garment cooperation in Asia and especially ASEAN countries, VITAS has participated AFTEX Member Annual Meetings (held in Myanmar) and AFF (via internet conference). Established in 1977, AFTEX was committed to support and contribute to the integration of textiles and apparel among Southeast Asian nations in order to create a strong regional textile and apparel industry. Up to now, through 37 years of development, the organization has made important contributions to the economic development of ASEAN. For AFF, Vietnam has joined AFF since 2009. In the past nine years, active engagement with AFF has contributed to the support of the Vietnamese fashion industry in the region and creation of stable professional resources.

Strengthening China Textile Cooperation through the China Textile Council (CNTAC) and the China Information Center (CTIC): In the past, the two parties had a lot of exchanges on the situation of bilateral cooperation, The workshop on Textile Supply Chain as well as the launching of the Research Conference on Sustainable Utilization of the Meekong River Basin in the Textile Industry.

VITAS is the endoros of SAIGONTEX 2018: International Exhibition of Textile and Garment - Equipment and Materials Industry (SAIGONTEX 2018) was held at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) - 799 Nguyen Van Linh, Tan Phu Ward, Dist 7 from 11 to April 14, 2018. With an area of over 31,000 m2, SAIGONTEX 2018 attracted the participation of more than 1,100 companies from 27 countries in the world such as Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany. , Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Pakistan, Netherlands, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. SAIGONTEX introduced many advanced technology equipment as well as materials and accessories with new trends to meet the needs of developing Vietnam's fashion and apparel market.

Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) cooperated with IEC - Australia to hold a workshop on "Promoting textile and garment export to Australia market in the context of CPTPP". The purpose of the workshop was to help Vietnam garment enterprises to have a full information channel to access and expand the potential textile market of Australia - one of the 11 countries participating in the Partnership Agreement. Transpacific and Trans-Pacific (CPTPP).

Intertex Shanghai Fair: From March 14 to 16, 2008, the Intertex Shanghai Home Textile Spring 2018 Fair was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) - National Exhibition and Convention Center - Shanghai (NECC) - 333 Songze Avenue, Qingpu District, Shanghai, China. Shanghai Garment Textile Fair was the largest textile and garment material trade fair in the world held in March and October every year. The delegation visited the fair, met many customers as well as attended seminars, seminars and some other activities.

Cooperating with Balaji Company - and the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to hold the Denim Jeans Exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City in June 27-28: This was the third time VITAS  collaborated with Incham and Balaji to hold the event. On June 28, 2018, within the framework of the exhibition Denims and Jeans 2018 in HCMC. HCMC, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) held a workshop on "Supply Chain DENIM Vietnam - Sustainable Development Strategy". Attending the workshop were representatives of textile suppliers, raw materials, denim business, export business, researcher, denim product designer
