Seminar “Brands’ requirements for textile supply chain”

28/09/2017 08:12 PM

September 2017 – TÜV Rheinland Vietnam and Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association (VITAS) cooperated to organize the seminar “Brands’ requirements for textile supply chain”

So far, the Detox campaign has been able to secure public commitments from nineteen international fashion companies to eliminate the negative environmental impacts of their production. They can do this through the suppliers they choose to collaborate with, the design of their products, and the control they can exert over the chemicals used throughout the production processes. To help companies in textile and garment industry in Vietnam update information and requirements of international brands according to Detox campaign, TÜV Rheinland and Vietnam Textile & Apparel Association cooperated to organize the seminar “Brands’ requirements for textile supply chain” with over 40 participants.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai - Deputy Secretary General of VITAS is giving opening speech

At the seminar, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai - Deputy Secretary General of VITAS said that the most importance is the combination of economic development and environmental protection to keep the living space clean, green, and beautiful. We must ensure the ecological balance and prevent the damage to the environment as well as exploit and save natural resources. Enterprises’ products should be suitable and safe for human health, friendly to the environment and sustainable development. This is also a requirement in free trade agreements that Vietnam participates.

Mr. Frank Juettner - General Director of TÜV Rheinland is giving welcome speech

“Vietnam became in the past a global partner in the textile sourcing supply chain. And today, more and more goods are sourced here from international buyers and brands.” said Mr. Frank Juettner, General Director of TÜV Rheinland. As Vietnam and their companies are included in the international trade, it is inevitable to follow the requirements for sustainable production. In 2013, Greenpeace launched the Detox campaign, which signed up some fashion brands to stop the discharge of toxic chemicals into rivers as a result of the production of their clothes. The seminar helped participants to be updated with first-hand information about the campaign and its objectives and how to meet the requirements of international brands that signed up for this and the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemical (ZDHC) campaign. Mr. Juettner also emphasizes that this seminar was very important for companies in textile and garment industry to stay competitive in the market and to be an attractive partner in the global supply chain.

Dr. Nguyen Ba Hoai Anh, Director of Softlines Laboratory of TÜV Rheinland is giving presentation

Dr. Nguyen Ba Hoai Anh, Director of Softlines Laboratory, shared with the participants about the impact of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Program to textile industry, the commitment of international brands, the brands’ requirements and roadmap for textile supply chain and solutions for compliance with brands’ requirements.
