Speaking at the Forum, Mr. Vu Duc Giang - Chairman of VITAS assessed, "Vietnam - Taiwan Textile Forum" makes an important contribution in connecting Vietnamese textile & Garment enterprises and Taiwanese textile & Garment enterprises, as well as identify appropriate solutions to transform the textile and garment industry for sustainable development. Overviewing the situation of Vietnam's textile and garment industry, Mr. Giang said that the total export turnover of Vietnam's textile and garment industry in the past 8 months is estimated at 26.2 billion USD, down 16.4% compared to the same period in 2022. Never before has Vietnam's textile and garment industry encountered such difficulties. It is expected that total export turnover in 2023 will only reach about 39.5 - 40 billion USD. Currently, Vietnam has 16 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) in effect with countries around the world. In particular, new generation FTAs such as CPTPP, EVFTA, RCEP... are creating special attraction for foreign investors, including investors from Taiwan. Up to now, the total direct investment capital in Vietnam's textile and garment industry has reached nearly 35 billion USD, of which Taiwanese FDI enterprises accounted for nearly 6 billion USD, ranking second after South Korea. Projects mainly focus on investing in fields such as fiber, yarn, weaving, dyeing, sewing, printing and some supporting industries, but still cannot meet the supply shortage in the industry. Mr. Giang hopes that the Taiwanese business community with its strengths will continue to promote investment in research and development of new functional materials, fiber technology, weaving and dyeing as well as support Vietnamese businesses in improving quality of human resources for digital transformation and sustainable development.

Regarding the direction of cooperation development in the coming time, Mr. Giang proposed to the Taiwanese side: First, develop a plan to organize visiting delegations and meetings to discuss cooperation between businesses on both sides to learn about production and business thinking as well as exchanging techniques, technology, and human resource management with each other. Second, the Government of Vietnam has approved the "Strategy for developing the textile & garment industry to 2030, vision to 2035", which pays special attention to the issue of calling for investment in the spinning - weaving - dyeing supply chain that Vietnam's textile and garment industry lacks. Therefore, VITAS wishes to soon establish an information exchange channel with Taiwanese textile enterprises investing in Vietnam to connect the supply of raw materials and accessories to Vietnam's garment production chain. Third, Vietnam's textile and garment industry is facing the need to invest in technology conversion from automation to smart production. Faced with increasingly strict requirements from customers, Vietnamese textile and garment enterprises are forced to transform production operations towards sustainable development, minimizing impacts on the environment and people. VITAS hopes that Vietnam's textile and garment industry will receive support for technical transfer and new generation technology from Taiwan to adapt to the trend of digital transformation, sustainable development and training of human resources (Technical and technological staff for weaving, dyeing, fashion design, digital transformation, greening...). Fourth, the two sides need to pay special attention to communication work, regularly updating the situation of the bilateral textile and garment market, and organizing quarterly and annual thematic seminars.

Ms. Huang Chuang Fang Jung - Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of TTF said that the Forum is a very good condition to attract investment from Taiwanese businesses to Vietnam. The 2023 - 2025 orientation will develop the textile and garment industry into a mainstream part of Taiwan's economy, and will increase investment in Vietnam in the direction of taking advantage of recycled raw materials, digital transformation, automation, using solar energy, improving productivity...to achieve the goal of reducing emissions to zero and developing green. After the pandemic, Taiwan and Vietnam will strengthen cooperation to develop the textile industry. According to Ms. Fang Jung, digitalization is an inevitable path and a vital standard. We are facing many difficulties, epidemics, natural disasters... Businesses need solutions to survive and develop here, must contribute to environmental protection, high-end products must meet environmental protection and reuse standards. We must have sustainable fashion. According to Ms. Fang Jung, Taiwanese businesses should invest in industrial parks because it will be safer. At the same time, Ms. Fang Jung also expressed her welcome to Vietnamese businesses investing in Taiwan.

Experts from both sides shared and analyzed issues related to the textile situation in Vietnam, opportunities and solutions to overcome challenges and innovate in technology and new functional materials in the textile industry to contribute to reducing net emissions to zero and enhancing digital transformation in Vietnam's textile and garment industry. According to experts, Vietnam and Taiwan have established a cooperative relationship in economics, investment, trade... for many years. Especially recently, the Vietnamese and Taiwanese Textile and Garment industries have built a close partnership. After analyzing the opportunities and challenges of Vietnam's textile and garment industry, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang - Vice Chairman of VITAS outlined solutions to enhance cooperation, complement and take advantage of each other's strengths in the textile and garment sector. Firstly: Take advantage of technology, financial resources, and human resources of Taiwan to promote investment in the field of weaving and dyeing with green technology, energy saving, and using renewable energy, water circulation. Second: Promote digital transformation and technology transfer between Taiwanese and Vietnamese businesses. Representatives of the Vietnamese and Taiwanese textile and garment industries said that the content shared and discussed at the Forum today are all topical, important and very practical topics for us to understand each other better, cooperate together and benefit together. Leaders of the two Associations affirmed that VITAS and TTF continue to play a leading role in connecting Taiwanese and Vietnamese textile and garment enterprises to enhance cooperation to bring efficiency and benefits to both sides.
