The Vietnam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS) has urged the government to prepare a development strategy to 2025 with a vision towards 2040, as the present plan has become obsolete. The association has also asked the government to group textile and garment enterprises in concentrated industrial parks to attract domestic and foreign capital.
At the two VDMA conferences, themed 'German Technology meets Vietnamese Textiles' held in Vietnam in Hanoi and HCM City on July 5 and 7, respectively, about 600 decision makers and experts attended.
VN textile industry want to revise development plan to 2020 and beyond

The Vietnam garment sector has earned an export turnover of $27.5 billion in 2015. With the current growth, the domestic garment and textile industry wants to revise a development plan to 2020 with vision for 2030 to match the progress of the country. The sector has set export turnover at between $50 and $50 billion by 2020, instead of targets set in the current plan, according to Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS).

ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries - AFTEX 40th Council Meeting and 38 Plenary Session was held on the 16th- 18th January 2018 at Ratilanna Riverside Resort, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The meeting was joined by 9 AFTEX members of Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC), Indonesia Textile Association (API), Association of the Lao Garment Industry (ALGI), Malaysian Textile Manufacturers Association (MTMA), Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA), Confederation of Garment Exporters of the Philippines (CONGEP), Singapore Textile and Fashion Federation (TAFF), The National Federation of Thai Textile Industries (NFTTI), Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS).
